1915 North Boulevard — Reagan | Andre Architecture

The house is located at 1915 North Boulevard in the Boulevard Oaks Historic District, The architect wanted to meet the client’s contemporary sensibilities while creating a home that would fit seamlessly into the eclectic styles of the neighborhood. The character of the house was balanced with the client’s need to have thoughtful space for their family of four, graceful entertaining spaces, and strong relationship to the outdoors and pool.

The deep site and presence of a back alley allowed for a main house and detached garage/guest suite. The architects created a two story ‘bridge’ between the structures which enables the prevailing southeast breezes into a pool courtyard. Interior spaces open up into this courtyard using terraces (including rooftop) and balconies.  The first floor plan is anchored by a wood paneled ‘nest’ that creates a gentle separation between spaces and accommodates frequent entertaining. To enhance the relationship to the outdoors, we utilized pocketing glass doors between kitchen and patio to create a seamless transition from indoors to outdoors.

Interior and exterior materials were chosen for their ability to invoke the warmth and visual vocabulary of a cottage but with a contemporary application.  Painted brick, stucco walls, vertical cedar planks, double-hung windows, gable roofs, porches, and garden wall respond to the scale and materiality of neighboring houses.
