River Point Residence

Located along the banks of Buffalo Bayou, River Point is one of several Hurricane Harvey replacement houses in the Riverbend neighborhood, which experienced catastrophic flooding, with many homes along the bayou having 3-6' feet of water in them for almost two weeks. The new house replaces a flood destroyed Mid-Century home and capitalizes on the bayou adjacent topography of the site as part of a new site / spatial design solution. A full cast in place basement and recessed parking court occupy the flood zone areas, while expansive dwelling and outdoor living areas are perched above what appears to be a concrete plinth rising out of the ground. The lower levels are designed to flood, and consolidate more mundane functions into a compact footprint for a relatively large house, allowing the lot to remain expansive. Interior spaces are organized around views to Buffalo Bayou, which takes a slight bend along the rear property line, providing a variety of Houston Pastoral views up, down, and across the bayou. The new house also was designed as a gallery type house for the Owner's fine art collection, as well as a collection of specimen guitars, and interior views and spatial organization complement the Owner's desire to display their collection.
